The FNAC full form in Medical term is Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology. The FNAC technique is usually used in an outpatient department to sample masses, such as those seen in the breast, neck, and illnesses like tuberculosis, lymphoma, etc. It is the first step in determining the root cause of abnormal swellings. When a breast or neck mass is seen, an aspiration cytology test is advised. The purpose of this test is to identify whether the lump is malignant. It is also used to diagnose diseases of the lymph nodes, salivary glands, and thyroid.

Purpose of FNAC test:

Most often, a swelling or lump that is just beneath the skin’s surface is subjected to a tiny needle aspiration treatment. Fine needle aspirations are mostly used to identify cancer, but they can also be used to examine swellings for other disorders, including granulomatous lymphadenitis, lymphomas, lymphomatous lymphoma, tuberculosis, and toxoplasmosis.
