CAG Full Form in Medical

What is CAG Full Form in Medical?

The CAG Full Form in Medical term is Coronary Angiogram. This cardiac catheterization technique involves inserting a 2 mm-diameter catheter through the wrist, elbow, or groin up to the coronary arteries and injecting a contrast dye to take x-ray images. This allows the visualization of the condition inside the coronary arteries to evaluate coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia, atherosclerosis, or other abnormalities that cause chest pain, leading to an effective and precise treatment plan. Coronary angiograms (CAG) are both diagnostic X-ray imaging procedures and treatments for coronary artery disease (CAD).

Indications for performing CAG:

The gold standard for identifying coronary artery disease, which is brought on by blood clots, tartar, or deposited fat along the walls of the coronary arteries, is a coronary angiography. This condition narrows or blocks the coronary arteries, obstructing blood flow to the heart muscle. In addition to causing shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pain, and excessive perspiration, this constriction can ultimately result in either chronic myocardial ischemia or a hazardous acute myocardial infarction, which can trigger a heart attack.

Benefits of CAG:

It helps in identifying the narrowing or the blockage in the coronary arteries and also helps in detecting the overall health of the blood vessels of the heart. It is both a diagnostic and a therapeutic procedure and also helps to measure the cardiac output and the blood flow rate through the heart. It helps in identifying the congenital heart disease and arterial septal defect.
