What is the Full Form of ASO in Medical?
The Full Form of ASO in Medical term is the Antistreptolysin O Titer test. The ASO test is an examination of the blood used to detect strep infection. Your body creates antibodies to fight off dangerous microorganisms as soon as you fall into contact with them. Antibodies that are particular to the microorganisms they combat are produced by your body. The ASO test quantifies the antibodies your body produces in reaction to streptolysin O, a toxin. The bacterium Group A Streptococcus (also called as GAS in short) bacterium generates the toxin streptolysin O. When you have a GAS-caused strep infection, your body produces Antistreptolysin O antibodies.
When it is Prescribed?
Antibiotics are typically prescribed in order to treat infections related to strep, for example strep throat, in order to eradicate the strep bacteria. However, some people may not be aware that they require therapy because they do not exhibit any of the signs during a strep infection. Future consequences may come as a result from an infection that is not treated properly. Post-streptococcal problems are the term for all of these issues.
By evaluating the amount of antistreptolysin particles in your blood, the ASO test can assist your doctor in determining whether you have just recently experienced a strep infection.
