The Full Form of ICN in Medical is the International Council of Nurses. As many as 130 national nursing associations are members of the ICN. It was the first global association for medical practitioners, having been established in 1899. The city of Geneva, Switzerland, is home to its headquarters. The goals of the association are to unite professional nursing associations into a global organization, raise awareness of nurses & the nursing field globally, and have an impact on national and international health policy.

- In order to improve nursing education & ethical behavior as professionals for the benefit of the general public, an alliance of national nursing organizations was to be established.
- Nurses from Canada, the US, South Africa, Australia, the Republic of New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Denmark made up the temporary committee.
- The Council of the National Representative (the CNR) oversees ICN. As the ICN’s governing body, the CNR chooses its committees of directors, establishes policies, admits members, and sets dues.
- ICN has 4 governors. There is a president along with 3 vice presidents are among them. The officers serve as both the board’s executive committee & its finance & budget committee. The CNR elects its president.
